WHAT I’VE BEEN EATING UPDATE

This blog is highlighting how I am feeling after two weeks of following the changes I outlined in my previous post What I’ve been eating.

The quick answer:

the best I have in ten years.

Now let me tell you why (Just a warning, I may start crying while writing this.)

Just before I dive in, I am going to take a second to be a bit vulnerable here and give those of you who don’t know me that well a glimpse at what I have been feeling the last ten years.

In the last ten years I have felt tired, lethargic, hungry, frustrated, puffy and even depressed. On the extreme side, I experienced disordered eating while attending University, to the point of being unable to walk up a moderately inclined street while on a walk with my brother. The thought of that is deeply upsetting to me and is actually bringing me to tears as I write this. That was my lowest point but I have never been able to fully recover to a normal way of eating since that time. I have mainly focused on restrictive dieting and my weight has consistently fluctuated in a window of about 40 lbs for the last ten years.

The past two weeks have been life changing and I hope they will be for you too, if you can relate to my journey.

energy:

the change in my energy levels is remarkable. I feel rested, energized and excited for what they day has in store (even without coffee).

cravings:

I used to crave so many things. Bread, rice, pizza, fruit, gummy vitamins and just about anything else you can think of. I was depriving my body and mind of all the nutrients it needed and fed it foods that tricked my body into thinking it was hungry for more carbs and sugary foods. I don’t crave food at all right now, what I really crave is water and I never used to be thirsty. I am hungry when my satiety from my last meal is wearing off (about 3-4 hours after eating). I am not eating bread, sugars, candy…etc. and I have no interest in it.

sleep:

On average I used to go to bed around midnight and would set my first alarm for 6 am and continuously snooze until about 7:30am. I was always tired, I fell asleep at the movie theatre on numerous occasions and would only start to wake up when it was time to go to bed. Now I strive to go to bed between 8 and 10pm. I naturally wake up around 5:30-6am and I feel completely energized. I go through the day with my eyes wide open, fully excited for what the day has in store for me.

my body:

I got to the point where I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror, I looked tired, puffy and just not myself. The latter part of the second week of eating, drinking water, working out and sleeping right. I looked like myself again. My face has slimmed down, my jeans are fitting better and today when I went to apply some foundation to my skin and put on a tiny bit (one layer of two that I usually use) and I went to apply my second layer as I usually do and I didn’t need it. My skin looked completely different. I was actually left looking in the mirror at myself in shock. It’s hard to explain but my face just looks more awake, it has more natural colour, my eyes are brighter and more open.

my nails:

My nails when from being weak and bumpy to hard and smooth.

hunger:

I start to get hungry about an hour before my next meal time and if I get a little hungry between meals I eat one of the bridge snacks outlined in Kelly’s book and I’m good to go.

fitness:
I can actually feel my muscle growing. I used to go to the gym and never really see my body change and now I can actually see and feel it.

If you’ve read her book, please share how it’s effected you. I would love to hear.
