AVOCADOS

Who doesn’t love avocados? Here are my tips and tricks for making the most of them.

shopping for them

I like to buy avocados that have a little give but that aren’t completely ripe yet, especially if I am not planning on using them immediately.

If you want to make something like guacamole or avocado toast right away, you’ll want to buy them soft with a bit of firmness to them.

ripening them

If they’re hard, I let them ripen in a pretty bowl on my kitchen counter for a few days and once they are softened I transfer them to the fridge.

freezing them

If you’ve placed them in the fridge but they’re looking like they’re going to rought before you can use them, cut them into quarters, lay them out on a baking sheet or plate and place them in your freezer over night. Check on them the next morning and they should be nice and frozen. Once they’re frozen you can place them in a freezer safe bag and they won’t stick together. I like to cut them into quarters because they way I know how much I am using.

You can use them frozen by adding them to your morning smoothie as a natural fat source that will keep you full longer or you can even thaw them out and use them for guacamole or avocado toast.
