WHAT CANADIAN HOSPITALS PROVIDE FOR LABOUR AND DELIVERY

I’ve been searching to no avail to find out what is commonly provided in Canadian Hospitals for labour and delivery. I figured if I was struggling to find this information a lot of you other expectant mothers in Canada were most likely experiencing the same thing. So, I took to instagram to ask my insta community. Moms from across Canada answered with what was provided when they gave birth.

What I gathered is it really is quite different from hospital to hospital even within the same province, however there are some items that pop up in nearly everyone’s answers like diapers…etc.

I was even lucky enough to get a response from someone who works postpartum care (thank you Julie!) and she gave me a glimpse at what they provide in her unit;

  • pads (large and small)

  • underwear

  • a peri bottle

  • diapers

  • dry wipes

  • vaseline

  • breast pump (if needed while in hospital)

  • soothers

  • formula and nipples (if required).

So many mothers reached out with what their experience were like (thank you all for being so generous and sharing!) and I’ve posted their answers anonymously below in hopes that this helps you get an idea of what you can potentially expect.

Even with this information I still recommend reaching out to your care provider or your local hospital to find out what will be provided for you at your local hospital. I’ll be asking my doula and midwives who work at the hospital I will be delivering in frequently.

I also asked Canadian Moms what they were happy they packed which I’ll be sharing in another blog post soon and am in the middle of putting together my own guide for what I’ll be packing. I might even do a little video if my energy levels stay up like they have been the last few days (lol) but I’m not promising anything these days.

If you had a different experience or feel like sharing, please post in the comments below.
