ANTIQUE BOOK BUNDLE

I’ve had my eye on these gorgeous antique book bundles for years now and have been wanting to make my own ever since I first saw them. They are an easy and fun craft project if you’re into that kind of thing. If you aren’t comment below and I can make one for you. I can get in touch with you on pricing.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

2 books, paperback (Ones you don’t read anymore)

1 large bowl of water or sink filled with water

1 cookie pan or flat surface for it to dry

a few rocks

paint (I used chalk paint in the colour parchment from Michaels, it’s slightly off white)

1 garbage bag

1 medium sized craft paint brush

1 small glass filled with water

paper towel

jute twine (2 ply)

DIRECTIONS

Step One — Remove the covers of the books.

Step Two — Fill up your sink with water or a large bowl. Dip the edges of the books into the water, not the entire book, just the sides, not the binding side. I dunked mine about a 1/2 inch into the water and removed after about 2 seconds.

Step Three — Let the books dry. I placed my books on a silicon mat on-top of a baking sheet and left them to dry outside for a few days. I weighted them down with rocks so they didn’t blow away and so that I could open the book to let the inside pages dry off easier.

Step Four — Once your books are dry, lay out a large garbage bag outside, in your garage, on your patio, in a park or wherever you feel safe to paint. Take your paint and paint bush and lightly dip the brush in the paint. Do a couple test brush strokes on the inside pages, this will help you what technique you like.. I liked vertical strokes on the pages and I liked very little paint on my brush for the more wirey stroke effect. So I would get the excess paint off on the interior pages and use the little bit of paint left to do the outside covers. When it came to painting the sides of the book. I kind of rubbed paint off on the inside pages again and just pressed the end of the brush into the pages, I also fanned the pages open and kind of dabbed at them to get an uneven and messy texture.

Step Five — Once you’re happy with your paint job, let your books dry outside or near a window on the garbage bag until their dry to the touch. I gave mine a few days before placing them on any surface to ensure they didn’t leave any paint behind.

Step Six — Once the books are dry, take your jute rope and tie a bow around the books.

Enjoy !
